Long time no see!
It has been way too long since I have made a post on here. I remember saying at the end of January in the last post that I would try to push out more stuff frequently. It is now July…
Hopefully this post right here can give a relatively valid reason for my lack of posting for months. There are a few things that have changed on this website:
- I have changed the layout of my portfolio quite a bit. The header bar looks more condensed and streamlined (although I can’t remember what it looked like before…).
- The left sidebar of the home page has been formatted a bit to make sure my other links have space and can be navigated to.
- The “Portfolio” page has been reformatted with a few new projects that I have been working on. (Unfortunately, the mobile view looks messy but on Desktop it looks better).
I finally wanted to share the progress on a project that started back in May of this year. I have been fortunate enough to work on a research project that explores the application of Virtual Reality for use in Healthcare.
The idea is as follows: by taking medical imaging data like CT or MRI scans and converting from DICOM format into a 3D Object file using 3D Slicer, we can take these 3D Objects and import them into a game engine to view using a VR Headset. The medical data was taken from both 3D Slicer and The Visible Human Project to use as sample datasets. The 3D Slicer application tool was used to segment and export the different layers like outer and inner layers, the brain, skull, eyes, skin, etc. By converting them into .obj, placing them into Unity, and making a few UI features that allow for the handling, toggling, control, and viewing of the model, the user should be able to view detailed human anatomy while only being in a virtual space.
To view what the application looks like so far, here is a video demo:
This project will soon be wrapping up in the next few weeks. More info on how much of the implementation was done will be shown in posts/videos like this.
That is all for now. Take care everyone!
